Extraordinary Women

In this glorious sun-dappled, Capri-set serial adaptation of Compton Mackenzie’s cult queer classic, a memorable group of wonderful characters find romance, intrigue, forbidden love, and promises broken as they escape convention under a Mediterranean sun in the midst of the First World War.

A bawdy comedy, as well as a serious study of how the war touched every life, our extraordinary women of Capri - emigres, refugees from revolutions, writers, artists, poets, and actresses - redefine what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour for the ‘fairer sex’, not least with regards to whom they choose to adore, share their bed with, and ache for. There are lustful encounters, jealous fights between married couples, broken hearts, and unrequited love affairs, not to mention complications intruding from off the island to do with inheritances, divorce papers, unexpected bankruptcies and espionage.
